Program Competency

Core Requirement: Complete all Core requirements below.
Supplemental Requirement: Complete two Supplemental activities.

Earn a “C” or Higher in Your JATC Courses

Students must earn a minimum grade of “C” in all JATC courses. Include a copy of your report card or Skyward grade printout showing all JATC grades completed through 3rd quarter.

Attendance Record

Students may have no more than 3 unexcused absences or 3 tardies per quarter to earn the medallion.

• School-excused and parent-excused absences do not count against you.
• Parents cannot excuse absences that are more than 5 days past.
• Students should consult with their teachers when they will be absent and determine what work needs to be made up.
• If you have more than 10 parent-excused absences, additional discussion may occur with your JATC teacher and/or counselor to better understand the circumstances.

Industry / YouScience / USBE Certification

Students may earn an industry, YouScience, or USBE certification in many JATC programs. Include the certificate in your portfolio as evidence. Check with your JATC instructor to learn which certifications are available in your program.

Career Pathway Completion

Complete all coursework in one of the CTE Pathways and submit a Pathway Completer Application or receive a Pathway Completer Certificate. Include the application or certificate in your portfolio as evidence.

Capstone / Showcase Project Completion

Complete a capstone or showcase project as defined and certified by your program instructor. Include a copy of the certificate, the project itself, or a one-page description of the project in your portfolio. Photos of the project may also be included when applicable.

Student Program Reflection

Complete a student reflection writing assignment and include it in your portfolio. Use the instructions below for the required reflection.

Internship / Practicum Reflection

Many JATC students have the opportunity to complete an internship or practicum experience. Complete the Internship/Practicum Reflection and include it in your portfolio as evidence.

Industry Tour

Many students have the opportunity to participate in a tour of a related company or place of business through their JATC program. These tours are often offered as field trips during the school year and provide valuable insight into the day-to-day work of a chosen career field.

After attending an Industry Tour, complete the documentation below and include it in your portfolio.

Instructor-Approved Activity

An instructor and/or counselor may approve another activity that meets the expectations of the Program Competency component.
