Program Competency

Core – Complete the following:
Earn an average of a “B-” in JATC Courses Students must earn a minimum of a “B-” average in all JATC courses.  Students must include a copy of their report card or Skyward grade printout that shows all JATC grades completed through 3rd quarter.

Attendance Record -  Students will have no more than a total of 5 unexcused absences or tardies per semester. School/parent-excused absences do not count against you. Parents cannot excuse absences that are greater than 5 days past.

*Students, consult with your teachers if you'll be absent and what you can do to make up any work. **If you have over 5 parent-excused absences, further discussion to understand the circumstances of the absences may occur with the teacher and/or counselor at JATC.

Supplemental – Complete three of the following*:
Industry Certification – Students can achieve an industry certification in many of the JATC programs. Include the certificate as evidence for the portfolio.  Students should check with their JATC instructor to learn which industry certifications are available in their program.

Career Pathway Completion  – Students must complete all of the coursework in one of the CTE Pathways, submit a Pathway Completer Application or be awarded a Pathway Completer Certificate.  Please include the Pathway Completer application or certificate in your portfolio as evidence. Capstone/Showcase Project Completion – Students can complete a capstone or showcase project as defined and certified by their program instructor.  A copy of the certificate, project or a one-page description of the project must be included in the student portfolio. Photos of the project, if applicable, can also be included with the description.
 
Presentation/Skills Demonstration – Students will conduct a formal presentation as defined and certified by their program instructor.  A copy of the presentation or write-up describing the presentation must be included in the student portfolio. Photos of the project, if applicable, can be included with the description.
 
Student Program Reflection – Complete a student reflection writing assignment and include it in the student portfolio. The link below gives detailed instructions on what is expected in the program reflection.
 
Internship/Practicum Reflection –Many JATC students have the opportunity to complete an internship or practicum experience. The Internship/Practicum Reflection must also be included in the portfolio as evidence.

USBE Certification – Some programs include the opportunity to complete a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) certification.  Students can achieve a USBE Certification by successfully passing a state skills test.  The certificate issued can be included in the student portfolio.  Students should check with their JATC instructor to learn which USBE certifications are available in their program.
 
Industry Tour - Many students have the opportunity to participate in a tour at a related company or place of business as a part of their JATC program.  These tours are often offered as a field trip during the school year.  Touring a company and learning about the actual day-to-day work in your chosen field is a valuable experience in career exploration. After attending an Industry Tour, complete the following documentation and include it in your portfolio.
