Program Description: Horticulture

Why just study science when you can grow it? If you're ready to get your hands dirty, step into our 10,000 sq. ft. greenhouse and two-acre garden.

In this class, you aren't just a student—you’re a professional designer and grower.

We'll study:

  • Floral Design: Master the art of professional arrangements.
  • Greenhouse Management: Take charge of our massive industry-standard greenhouse. Learn how to successfully plan, plant, and producing crops from start to finish.
  • Scientific Mastery: Deep dive into plant and soil science, pest management, and greenhouse operations.
  • Earn College Credit: Walk away with 3 USU credits plus certifications in Greenhouse Management and Floriculture.

Students will participate in discussions, research, case studies, hands- on greenhouse and garden experience, projects, and field trips. Students will also learn about and participate in maintaining the facilities and equipment associated with a greenhouse and produce commercial plant species in a controlled environment.

Applying to the Program:

Calling all sophomores and juniors! If you’re ready to trade the traditional classroom, we want you in the Horticulture program. The only recommended prerequisite is that you have a Biology credit under your belt before the program begins. Once that’s checked off, you’re ready to start your professional journey from seed to sale!

FFA

FFA: Leadership in Action FFA is the heartbeat of agricultural education. As a student in this program, you’ll join the JATC South FFA Chapter (unless already active at your home school). You’ll step up and participate in at least one signature event—from a service activity, competitions and leadership conferences, or State Convention.

SAE: Your Experience, Your Way The Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) is where your classroom skills meet the real world. You’ll design and lead a hands-on project in one of five immersion categories, tracking your time, budget, and growth in a professional record book. It’s more than a project; it’s your first step into the industry.
