trades vs management

Construction Trades

Construction Trades focuses on equipping students with foundational skills for the construction trades. Students will develop essential teamwork and practical skills by collaborating on multiple projects throughout the year. While incorporating a fair amount of classroom learning, this course primarily emphasizes hands-on carpentry, with significant time spent working in the shop and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions.

Construction Management

Construction Management emphasizes the managerial aspects of the construction industry. Students will gain essential skills in leading construction projects, managing personnel, overseeing supplies and budgets, and developing project schedules. While practical experience in the shop is included through labs and small projects, this course prioritizes management over hands-on carpentry, offering a comprehensive understanding of project leadership rather than focusing on general trades.

It is recommended that you take Construction Trades first (your junior year) then take Construction Management (your senior year). However, you can take both your senior year if desired.
